About Dr. Bowman
Dr. John J. Bowman is a licensed Clinical Psychologist and is a Certified Mental Performance Consultant - Emeritus.
After receiving his doctorate from Hofstra University in 1978 Dr. Bowman has maintained a practice in Clinical Psychology for over forty five years specializing in Behavioral Medicine and the treatment of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Anxiety Disorders, and Pain Management.
From 1984 to 1995 he held an appointment as Associate Professor of Psychiatry (Psychology) at the Stony Brook University Hospital where he taught Biofeedback and Hypnosis Application in Outpatient Psychotherapy.
For the past forty years he has been a member of the graduate faculty at the Stony Brook University School of Professional Development where he teaches the Psychology of Sport and Performance.
In 2010, he was appointed Clinical Director of the Suffolk County Emergency Services Critical Incident Stress Management Team and served in that capacity for eight years.
Dr. Bowman is a member of the American Psychological Association, the Suffolk County Psychological Association, and the American Society for Clinical Hypnosis.
He is a Certified Mental Performance Consultant - Emeritus with the Association for Applied Sport Psychology and is a member of the United States Olympic Committee Sport Psychology Registry.
